It is a long road ahead of recovery for our whānau. Reconnecting what was already an isolated takiwā of our rohe.  All koha will be given directly to our Kōhanga to help them as they work towards getting back on their feet.

Koha will be held by Te Kōhanga Reo o Pahou Marae on behalf of the three Kōhanga from the Purapura – Ruawaipu/Matakāoa

Tauranga Moana – Mauao

Tāiri ana ngā kapua pūkohukohu ki runga o Mauao maunga, te whakamaunga o te rohe o Tauranga Moana. Apakura tangi wiwini, apakura tangi wawana, apakura ana te ngākau i te rironga o ngā ika pounamu o te parekura nui kua tau ki runga i a koutou. Ka haehae te whatumanawa, ka kaikini te ngākau, auē taukuri e.

It has been an emotional and challenging week for the residents, visitors and iwi of Tauranga Moana. Slips around the country distracted many as each region had their own natural disaster to deal will. Six of the reported missing people who died at the Mauao Beachside camping ground have been recovered, and whānau can grieve for their loved ones.

The coming together of community has brought a sense of reality to the whakaaro of kotahitanga and manaakitanga. The iwi groups, schools and emergency and support have played a vital role in the management of this tragedy.

Our kaimahi on the ground are present, ensuring that tikanga is upheld and manaakitanga is available to everyone.

Te Taitokerau

Ahakoa i waipukehia ngā kainga maha o Te Taitokerau ki Whangaroa, Oakura, Whangaruru me te Rāwhiti, e pai ana te iwi o reira, e ora hoki ana te wairua. Kua waia ngā iwi o te Taitokerau ki ngā āwhā me ngā huripari nui, engari tonu rā ka tangi te ngākau ki te āhuatanga kua pā anō ki ngā whānau maha o Te Taitokerau.

Once again, our marae have played a significant role, hosting many when there is a state of emergency. Marae along the east coast of the north from Whangaroa, Oakura and Whangaruru and heading further have been hubs for disaster, dispensing supplies to those affected by the heavy rains.

Although some Kōhanga Reo are cut off and suffered some damage, there has been no significant loss to our Kōhanga Reo whānau in the north. Those affected are currently working with our kaimahi and Tari Matua to get their Kōhanga Reo back online.
