TKRNT Board Elections 2026 Step 2 - Purapura nominations and voting
Kia manawanui mai, kia ngākau tūwhera i roto i wā koutou kōwhiringa mō ngā māngai ā rohe.
Kei a tātou katoa te ara tika.
Purpose of this pānui
This pānui outlines Step 2: Purapura nominations and voting for the 2026 Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board elections.
With Step 1 now complete and all Kōhanga Reo nominations submitted, the election process now moves to Step 2. At this stage, the focus shifts from individual Kōhanga Reo to the Purapura level, where each Purapura must determine which of its nominated candidates will progress to the next stage.
In Step 2, each Purapura selects one candidate to move forward to Step 3 (Kahui Kaumātua), if applicable. If more than one candidate from your Purapura was nominated in Step 1, a Purapura hui and vote are required to confirm the preferred candidate. Each Kōhanga Reo within the Purapura is entitled to one vote.
The PDF Board Elections Process Step Two: Purapura nominations and voting provides full details and includes the Step Two form.
Step 2 closes at 5pm, 28 February 2026.
How Step 2 works
Each Purapura may advance only one candidate to Step 3.
If more than one nomination has been received from Step 1:
the Purapura holds a hui to consider the candidates. The minutes from this hui must be recorded, signed and submitted with the Step 2 form.
each Kōhanga Reo within the Purapura has one vote
the candidate with the most votes becomes the Purapura representative for Step 3 (if applicable)
The Board Elections Process Step Two PDF outlines the full process and explains how to record your final decision on the Step Two form.

Tie or split vote
If a tie or a split vote occurs that cannot be easily resolved, the following process applies:
1. Revote
The Purapura conducts a second vote.
2. Nominee discussion
If the result remains tied, nominees meet to discuss whether one wishes to withdraw.
3. Purapura resolution
If no nominee withdraws, the Purapura attempts to reach a collective resolution.
4. External panel
If the Purapura cannot reach agreement, an external panel of three members will make the final decision on behalf of the whānau.
The panel will inform the Board Elections Support Team by email. The Elections Support Team will then notify the Kaitohu ā Rohe and all Kōhanga Reo within the Purapura of the outcome.
