The Whānau Card is a discount card that can be used at any of our partner stores throughout the country.
You might be looking for a new TV, some furniture, building supplies or a mobile phone plan. Whatever the product you could save with the use of a Whānau Card.
The Whānau Card is perfect for anyone that’s looking to save money on their next purchase.
The card is issued free of charge and anyone can apply. So let all your whānau and friends know.
In addition to purchasing discounts a rebate or contribution is payable to a Kōhanga Reo centre that is nominated by you at the time of applying for a card. Rebate percentages vary from provider to provider.
The Whānau Card was first introduced into the kaupapa in 2002. A new version was launched at the Kōhanga Reo Expo in Palmerston North on 15 June 2017.
50 thousand Whānau Cards have been issued to date and we aim to sign up and another 30 thousand members by 2020 end.
To receive applicable discounts the Whānau Card must be presented when making a purchase.
When your card is produced it may be scanned or swiped by counter staff to activate any discounts. The card holder can then purchase the item if they choose via eftpos, credit card or hire purchase.
Our current partners are Carpet Court, Noel Leeming, Powershop, Skinny, SsangYong, Placemakers and Mico Plumbing.
We are working hard to add more providers in areas such as groceries, clothing, stationery plus many more.
Whānau Card members will be informed each time a new provider comes on board.
