BOARD ELECTIONS PROCESS 2021
Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust is now calling for Te Kōhanga Reo whānau to nominate possible candidates for the 2021 election of Trustees for the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board.
The following information has been prepared to guide and assist whānau and potential candidates on the nomination and election process. Included is an outline of the broad expectations, role and responsibilities for Trustees.
The overarching purpose of the Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board is to promote, support and encourage the use and retention of te reo Maori me ōna tikanga within a cultural framework. The Board, as the Kaitiaki, provides strategic oversight and governance to support the management of the Kōhanga Reo kaupapa.
Te Kōhanga Reo Trust Deed (Trust Deed) provides that the Board shall consist of no more than ten (10) or fewer than six (6) trustees. The 2021 Election seeks to elect up to four (4) new trustees for a term of five (5) years.
One (1) trustee will be elected from the following districts as follows:
NOTE: To enable transition from the pre-April 2021 position, the current trustees below will be deemed elected and continue until the April 2022 trustee election:
D01 Te Tai Tokerau: Waihoroi Shortland
D02/3 Tāmaki Makaurau: Hurimoana Dennis
D07 Aotea: Dame Tariana Turia
D08 Kahungunu: Matuakore Hook
D10 Te Waipounamu: Susan Lillian Tipene
D12/14 Mataatua/Tauranga Moana: Te Wheoro Rangikotua
Also, Daniel Procter is deemed elected as a co-opted member to April 2021.
All candidates must adhere to the process as outlined, including eligibility clause 6.11 of the Trust Deed.
Term of office
The Trustees elected will serve a term of 5 years, or otherwise, until he or she indicates in writing that he or she wishes to resign from the Board.
|1 – 14 February 2021||1. Each kōhanga reo whānau hui to determine their one (1) nominee.|
2. Purapura establish date for hui – ā rohe
3. Kāhui Kaumātua established and briefed on role and criteria for shortlisting. Date set for hui.
|15 – 28 February 2021||Each Purapura confirm their candidate. Names of the each Purapura candidate to be submitted to their rohe Kāhui Kaumātua panel.|
|1 - 14 March 2021||Kāhui Kaumātua shortlists up to three (3) Rohe candidates.|
Kāhui Kaumātua submit the final rohe candidates to Electionz.
|22 March 2021||Online voting opens for Te Kōhanga Reo Whānau for one of the three-(3) rohe candidates.|
|Thursday 1 April 2021||Voting will close at 5.00pm.|
|Wednesday 7 April 2021||Electionz Returning Officer will report to the Board on result.|
|Friday 9 April 2021||Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board will advise result to all candidates and whānau.|
|Tuesday 13 April 2021||Public notice of the final result (TKR website, email & press)|
