As a Kaiawhina at Te Kohanga Reo o Marotiri, you will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of mokopuna. This position offers you the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Kaiako, helping to create a culturally rich and immersive learning space. You'll make a real difference in the lives of our tamariki, guiding them to become confident and competent in their identity and language.
Key responsibilities:
- Support for Teaching Staff: Work alongside Kaiako to provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences for mokopuna.
- Development of Mokopuna: Interact with tamariki to nurture their confidence and skills in Te Reo Māori.
- Operational Duties: Help with daily tasks, including maintaining a clean and safe environment for mokopuna.
- Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with mokopuna, kaimahi, and whanau.
- Quality Assurance: Contribute to a welcoming and safe learning space in alignment with Te Whariki a Te Kohanga Reo.
- Cultural Competence: Actively promote Te Reo Māori and support whanau in connecting with their culture.
Essential criteria:
A genuine passion for Te Reo Māori and tikanga.Some experience in a Kohanga environment would be beneficial. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well in a team and be open to learning from others. Personal Attributes:Enthusiastic about working with tamariki and contributing to their development.

- Empathy: Ability to understand and respond to the needs and emotions of mokopuna and their whanau.
- Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with a commitment to fulfilling responsibilities consistently.
- A deep respect for Māori culture, customs and values with a genuine willingness to learn and adapt.
- Police vetting is required.
Work days and hours:
- Monday to Friday
- 9am to 3pm
- 30 hours a week
- Work days/hours and pay can be negotiated.
