About the role
Kei te rapu te whānau o Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ngākau Mahana i tētahi tangata matatau rawa ki ngā mahi kei rō tari. He tūranga e whakatinana ana i ngā whakahaere o te Kōhanga Reo hei tautoko hoki i te Kaiako Matua me te Whānau whānui. He tūranga tūmau tēnei e 20 haora ia wiki.
Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ngākau Mahana are seeking an experienced administrator to join our whānau as Kaiwhakarite, this position ensures the overall administration and management of Te Kōhanga Reo in consultation with Kaiako Matua and Whānau Whakahaere. this is a permanent position 20 hours weekly.
Key responsibilities
The role holder will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the Tari of Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ngākau Mahana.This is done through the development and maintenance of appropriate administrative systems and working with Kaiako Matua, Whānau Whakahaere, Whānau Whānui.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to;
- Maintain an efficient system of administration in the Kōhanga
- Ensure that all aspects of administration including filing, typing, copying, e-mailing etc are up-to-date and well managed
- Ensure safety and security of all information including keeping all confidential records safe and secure
- Attend to all inquiry in a courteous manner
About you
The Kaiwhakarite is an integral role in supporting the Kōhanga Reo. We are looking for a candidate with great interpersonal and communicative skills. Someone with the ability to work independently and in a team when needed. Finally, an individual who wants to be a part of a kaupapa and whānau that is driven to provide the best service for our tamariki.
- Fluency in Te Reo me ōna Tikanga or working towards fluency in Te Reo Māori
- Competent verbal, written and presentation skills. Ability to communicate confidently and effectively.
- Must enjoy working in a Kōhanga environment
- Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to work under pressure.
- Attend and present report at monthly Hui-ā-whānau
- Willing to undertake personal development training provided by Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust.
Preferable
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Full drivers licence
- Current Cleared Police Vetting
(all new staff will need to go through the Police Vetting process and have a returned cleared Police Vet letter before starting at Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ngākau Mahana

Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Ngākau Mahana has been one of the longest running Kōhanga Reo in West Auckland. We are fortunate to have 3 Kaiako that hold Te Tohu Whakapakari who each have 10+ years’ experience within te kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo. Te Ngākau Mahana are on Pay Parity and operate 48 weeks a year.
