Kei te whiwhi mātou ko Te Kōhao o Te Ngira Kōhanga Reo tētehi Kaitaraiwa hōu mō te tau 2025. The Kaitaraiwa is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for tamariki attending the kōhanga. The role requires adherence to the Kōhanga's policies and guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of tamariki and upholding the values of Te Ao Māori.
Key responsibilities
- Transportation Duties
- Safely transport tamariki to and from the kōhanga, ensuring they are appropriately seated and secured in safety restraints.
- Follow approved schedules and routes.
- Accommodate changes to pick-up/drop-off plans in consultation with kaiako or administrators.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Operation
- Ensure the van is clean, roadworthy, and compliant with warrant of fitness and registration requirements.
- Refuel the van at BP-approved stations without tamariki present and submit receipts to the Kaiwhakarite.
- Complete logbook entries after each trip.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure tamariki are safely seated with seatbelts on and maintain safe driving practices at all times.
- Abide by all legal and kōhanga-specific rules, including no smoking, alcohol, or food in the van.
- Report any accidents immediately to the kōhanga administrator and follow proper protocols.
- Avoid careless or negligent driving that may lead to personal liability.
- Cultural and Whānau Responsibilities
- Work alongside a whānau awhi/support person, ensuring tamariki are cared for during transport.
- Uphold and respect Te Ao Māori values and tikanga in all aspects of the role.
Essential criteria
- Must hold a current full driver’s license.
- Approved by the kōhanga whānau and registered with Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board.
- Ability to follow kōhanga policies, especially those relating to vehicle use and safety.
- Strong commitment to the care and safety of tamariki.
- Familiarity with Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori is highly desirable.
- The driver is responsible for all fines incurred during operation (e.g., speeding, parking, or overloading).
- The van is not for hire, personal use, or fare-paying passengers.
- Compliance with BP fuel card policies is mandatory.

- Monday: Morning -7.30am to 9am. Afternoon - 2.30pm to 4pm
- Tuesday: Morning -7.30am to 9am. Afternoon - 2.30pm to 4pm
- Wednesday: Morning -7.30am to 9am. Afternoon - 2.30pm to 4pm
- Thursday: Morning - 7.30am to 9am. Afternoon - 2.30pm to 4pm
- Friday: Morning- 7.30am to 9am. Afternoon – 2.30pm to 4pm
