About the role 

Are you passionate about nurturing the next generation in a vibrant Te Reo Māori environment? 

As a Kaiawhina at Te Kohanga Reo o Raurimu, you will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of mokopuna. This position offers you the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Kaiako, helping to create a culturally rich and immersive learning space. You'll make a real difference in the lives of our tamariki, guiding them to become confident and competent in their identity and language.

Key responsibilities 

• Support for Teaching Staff: Work alongside Kaiako to provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences for mokopuna.
• Development of Mokopuna: Interact with tamariki to nurture their confidence and skills in Te Reo Māori.
• Operational Duties: Help with daily tasks, including maintaining a clean and safe environment and ensuring safe transport for mokopuna.
• Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with mokopuna, kaimahi, and whanau.
• Quality Assurance: Contribute to a welcoming and safe learning space in alignment with Te Whariki a Te Kohanga Reo.
• Cultural Competence: Actively promote Te Reo Māori and support whanau in connecting with their culture.

Job Requirements

• A genuine passion for Te Reo Māori and tikanga.
• Some experience in an Kohanga environment would be beneficial
• Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and be open to learning from others.
• Personal Attributes:
• Enthusiastic about working with tamariki and contributing to their development.
• Adaptable and willing to embrace the dynamic nature of the role.
• Empathy: Ability to understand and respond to the needs and emotions of mokopuna and their whanau.
