About the role
Te Kōhanga Reo o Hoani Waititi is looking for 2 x experienced Kaiako full-time
Te Kōhanga Reo o Hoani Waititi has existed for over 41 years. We pride ourselves as one of the nation’s first Kōhanga reo and an integral stepping stone to Kura Kaupapa Māori and Wharekura. We are here to ensure the foundations of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori are firmly embedded in the identity of our tamariki. We welcome all like-minded individuals to our whānau. Nau mai, haere mai.
Key responsibilities
The kaiako position is part of a team that will be responsible for our taha pēpi (2 and under), kura waenga/kura hononga (2 and overs), for ensuring the needs of tamariki and whānau, are being met at all times while maintaining the values and principles of te kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo. You will also be responsible for contributing to effective planning using Te Whāriki and Te Korowai, assessing and evaluating the programme and activities and producing quality assessments of learning.
Key attributes include an understanding of Te Whāriki a Te Kōhanga Reo, familiarity with Te Korowai, being a good communicator and a passion for providing our tamariki with a safe reo Māori, Āo Māori place of education.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure that the safety of mokopuna is paramount.
- Kaiako will work to an approved whānau plan and assist in preparing and implementing Te Whāriki a te Kōhanga Reo.
- The Learning Plan - Te Whāriki a Te Kōhanga Reo will be developed by all Kaimahi with guidance and advice from whānau and align to the kōhanga reo Te Ara Tūāpae.
- The plan will include Te Mahere ā Tau, mahere ā ia rā
- Kaiako will support the overall quality care to mokopuna, making sure that the resources and facilities are maintained and cared for at the highest standard.
- To uphold Te Kōhanga Reo policies, rules and procedures as set out in our governance frameworks.
- Mahi tahi between all kaimahi to provide a positive, trusting and whānau friendly environment.
- Seek support, advice and pursue relevant training to upskill within the kaupapa.
Kaiako will attend kaimahi hui and kaupapa specific to the Kōhanga.Recognising this is a key role element.
