Kahurangi Iritana Tawhiwhirangi has a candid and in their words “feisty” korero with Willy Jackson from Marae TVNZ. In this interview Iritana moves on from the controversy and the 5 reviews and says that the Wai 2336 claim is a priority.


She has been the matriarch of the kōhanga reo movement for 32 years but allegations of misspending public money has seen the finger of blame firmly pointed at Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi. The trust is in charge of about $80m in funding to 496 kōhanga reo – Māori language preschools. It is also paid $2.5m a year by the Ministry of Education.

So can the trust resist ‘Crown intrusion’?
