Claudelands Events Centre, Hamilton
10-12 November 2022
He oha nā mua, he oha mā tai
“Ko ngā whakareretanga iho mai a kui mā, a koro mā hei kawenga mā ngā whakareanga, ngā whakatipuranga ka whai mai.” 19 May 2008 Te Wharehuia Milroy
The wealth of knowledge held by our elders is passed on to the next generation to ensure the legacy of a future is secure.
‘He oha nā mua, he oha mā tai’ is a reminder to us that we already have the tools to take ourselves into the future. Taonga, kōrero and kaupapa tuku iho means that we are part of a legacy that is embedded in our DNA and carried by our mokopuna.
Te kaupapa o Te Kōhanga Reo remains at the forefront of language retention and whānau transformation.
40 years on and the struggle to be relevant and whānau driven continues to be a priority. The legacy of our Kaumātua who worked in Kōhanga Reo and recognising their contribution through our claim, Matua Rautia W2336, is still in negotiations.
Te Hokorua o Te Kōhanga Reo represents the fight and struggle for the recognition and revitalisation of te iwi Māori through te reo Māori, and the tools we have been given to control our own destiny and future.
Kia tau ngā manaakitanga ki runga i a ia, Te Makau Ariki, a Te Atawhai, me ā rāua tamariki, mokopuna hoki. Rire hau, paimarire.
Te Kōhanga Reo will be welcomed on to Tūrangawaewae Marae, Ngāruawāhia on the afternoon of Wednesday 9 November. This will be the official opening of the 40 years celebration.
