TE KŌHANGA REO NATIONAL TRUST AWARDS 26 EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust today awarded 26 tertiary education scholarships to graduates of Te Kōhanga Reo.
The prestigious Tā Hemi Henare Doctor of Philosophy Scholarship was awarded to Rawiri Waititi of Te Whānau a Apanui who is studying toward a Doctorate degree from Te Wānanga o Awanuiarangi. Waititi attended Kōhanga Reo of Potaka and Whangaparaoa 1993 – 1997.

Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Chairman, Matua Hook said Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust is committed to supporting the development of the future leaders of our people from birth to beyond, that was the vision of kaumātua then and remains the vision today.

Hook went on to acknowledge the parents of the recipients who had the vision to send their tamariki to Kōhanga Reo.
The 2018 scholarships are a revised process for the distribution of Te Kōhanga Reo Scholarships from previous years,
This is an opportunity to provide support for tamariki-mokopuna who have been nurtured in their early years by the Kaupapa of Kōhanga Reo and continue the protection and development of te reo Māori” said Chief Executive of Te Kōhanga Reo Trust, Kararaina Cribb.

The Provider Scholarships are made possible through Providers such as Crombie Lockwood Insurance, Ssangyong, ITM, Noel Leeming, and Power Shop, Big Save, Carpet Court and it is important to recognise them and the many years they have worked with Te Kōhanga Reo as they enable whānau and mokopuna to benefit in many ways. These scholarships are just one of those benefits said Cribb.

He tangata kaingākau ki tōna ao Māori, He mokopuna nō wāna tīpuna katoa.
